Keeping mum and how it hurts - Part 2

8 "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.

9 Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy."

Proverbs 31: 8 - 9

I like how Joseph Lam explained injustice to us (PenHOP sty-elle!)

He said that injustice is basically the things on earth that don't agree with what is in heaven. When God created the heavens and the earth, He made them correspond to each other. What existed in heaven existed on earth and vice versa. For instance, on earth nature shows us how great our God is and in heaven the angels sing of how great our God is. So because corruption and perverse behaviour doesn't exist in heaven, it becomes an issue for God as it goes against His righteousness and definition of justice.

When Jesus spoke of His followers (at that time and the ones to come.) He always spoke of how in Him would we be victorious, in Him would we be clothed with power and in Him would we overcome. The fact that Jesus cared to mention so much about the humble and the people with the heart to see righteousness in this world shows that we aren't here just for show. Our existence in this world bears weight.

We have been called to be the Salt and Light in this darkening age. God calls us to be the "flava" to this distasteful world and the beacon of hope in the failing light. We have more than purpose in this life. We have a vocation! A mission to be accomplished. And part of that mission is to be ambassadors of Christ, speaking His Word, in this instance, speaking justice into the corrupt areas of our nation.

The tree is known by its fruit. If we fail to show our Saviour's compassion, we fail to show who He is.

Injustice is real. It is cruel and rampant, and it is real. If we as children of God do not speak out the Father's heart to see justice and righteousness being established in the places of darkness and take its rightful place, we are choosing to close our hearts and minds to the Saviour's desires.

A great German anti-Nazian theologian Martin Niemoller once said,

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

If we fail to speak out against the injustices in this world, we shall one day have to answer to God why not. Keeping mum hurts you and it hurts us all.

Signing off,
